BFAR, city aggie to establish mariculture project for residents
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the City Agriculture Office (CAO) will soon establish a mariculture project along the boundary of Calajunan creek towards Iloilo River.
CAO chief, Jose Gil Parreñas, said this alternative livelihood project would benefit some 87 fisherfolk families that reside within the said areas.
Parreñas said they plan to culture fingerlings collected from the river and release them back into the river after a certain period of time.
Likewise, they also intend to engage in crab culture.
Parreñas said they expect other fisherfolks to follow the initiative and make the project an alternative livelihood.
Parreñas has submitted a copy of the proposal to the office of Mayor Jerry Treñas and the Sangguniang Panlungsod for the budgetary support to the project. (PNA)
