Agencies working for OFW hold Community Education Program
While working with Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), the Department of Foreign Affairs – Regional Consular Office – Iloilo, Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) joined forces recently for a week-long seminars and lectures here in the Province and City of Iloilo and the Province of Guimaras.
Dubbed as 2007 Community Education Program, the week-long activities was geared towards informing the community on the services of the said government agencies both the overseas workers and their families here.
The Community Education Program was composed of coordinative meetings with Local Government Units, Philippine National Police and other stakeholders; Press Briefing and Interviews; and, Symposia.
The agencies involved in this endeavor were represented by Mr. Victor A. Española, Director of DFA together with Mr Mark D. Borres and Ms. Ma. Christina Sablon; Aileen D. Macapili, Senior Emigrant Services Officer of CFO – Cebu; Minda I. Cabilao-Valencia, Director of MIEO; and Mr. Allen J. Arroyo of Family Welfare and Reynold T. Pigar of OWWO 5.
Meanwhile, each agency presented their basic services during the symposium. The DFA-RCO-Iloilo facilitates the following: passporting (and mobile passporting), information dissemination on R.A. 9208 otherwise known as the Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, Attention to Nationals (ATN) - searching the whereabouts of Filipinos abroad, transfer of remains, repatriation, follow-up benefits abroad, absentee voting, citizenship reacquisition and retention, machine readable passport (MRP), among others.
The program is aimed at bringing the government closer to the people, particularly with those who have relatives working abroad.
