Ausan assumes post as Comelec reg'l director
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has silently implemented a nationwide reorganization of its regional directors. With the revamp, former Comelec-6 assistant regional director Atty. Dennis Ausan is now new regional director of the Comelec here in Western Visayas. He took his office last October 1, 2007.
Ausan and former regional director Atty. Renato Magbutay swapped with their assignments. Magbutay assumed as the regional director of the Comelec Northern Mindanao where Ausan used to be the regional director, said Comelec Election Officer 2 Jonathan Sayno.
Comelec Northern Mindanao covers Cagayan de Oro, provinces of Misamis Oriental, Bukindon, Lanao del Norte, Camiguin and Misamis. Magbutay was formerly the regional director for the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao and was also named in the controversial 'Hello Garci' conversation.
Sayno said the reorganization is part of the commission's preparation for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
The revamp has nothing to do with the resignation of former Comelec chairman Benjamin Abalos, he said.
Meanwhile, Sayno said the resignation of Comelec chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. last Friday has maintained the credibility of the poll body.
Abalos's resignation surprised the City Comelec officials and employees.
"The chairman had been implicated in several issues relative to his work but he did not resign. The pressure brought by the ZTE national broadband network controversy may have affected the chairman a lot that made him resign from his position," said Sayno.
