Dao repeats win, Panay gets first title in GPK
Roxas City -- The towns of Panay and Dao will represent the province of Capiz to the Regional Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran (GPK) competition.
Panay will be the province's official entry to the regional GPK competition in Category "A" that includes the 1st to 3rd class municipalities, while Dao will represent in Category "B" covering the 4th to 6th class towns.
The search in the province in the GPK, otherwise known as clean and green competition, has been an annual initiative of the provincial government here that provides incentives to the winners in terms of projects.
Under Category A, the winners are Panay, first place; Tapaz, second; and Pontevedra, third.
The municipality of Dumarao was recently declared by the province through the recommendation of the Provincial Search Committee as Hall of Fame in Category A for being the champion for 7 consecutive years.
The winners in Category B are Dao, first; President Roxas, second; Mambusao, third; and Cuartero, fourth.
Among the criteria in the annual search include absence of eyesores, well-maintained facilities, presence of healthful and environment-friendly practices, urban greening, support system and community mobilization.
This year's provincial search committee is chaired by Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr., co-chaired by DILG Provincial Director Jenny Destua and vice chaired by REACT represented by Leonardo Eusalan.
The member representatives are Joel Navarra of DENR, Wilfredo Reoyo of Department of Education, Jemin Guillermo of Philippine Information Agency, Stephen Bediones of Provincial Planning and Development Office, Danilo Ortiz of Kiwanis Club of Roxas City, Agnes Alado, Gerry Roxas Foundation; Ramon Atinon, Capiz Media Bureau of the Office of the Governor; and Lourdes Bereber, Provincial Health Office.
