Lack of asphalt delays repair of pothole-ridden roads
The repair of the city's damaged roads is primarily the responsibility of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as most of them are considered national roads.
This was learned from Mayor Jerry Treñas who met with the officials of the City District Engineering Office of DPWH and City Engineers Office yesterday to address the worsening condition of city roads.
It can be noted that most of the city roads are ridden with potholes of various sizes.
Treñas said the City Engineering District currently needs at least 105 drums of asphalt to cover the potholes. However, the mayor said, only 35 drums are available for use by the engineering department.
Nevertheless District Engr. Limuel Sales assured Treñas that they will speed up the repair of damaged roads.
The damaged roads caused inconvenience among the commuters and have been subject of several complaints.
Among the national roads that need to be asphalted are the Diversion Road, General Luna Street, and several roads in Arevalo and Mandurriao.
On the other hand, the CEO is working for the asphalt overlaying of roads at the Iloilo Sports Complex, Mabini, Delgado and Jalandoni streets.
