1st nat'l youth encampment kicks off
The first National PYAP (Pag-Asa Youth Association of the Philippines) encampment kicked off on Monday in Panaad Park, Alijis, Bacolod City.
"Nowadays, the youth have to face many social challenges. There is alcoholism, illegal drugs, cyber crimes, HIV-AIDS, violence and trafficking. We hope that you don't get to be victims of these," said DSWD Undersecretary Celia Yangco who was guest speaker during the opening program.
With the theme, "Kabataan, Pahalagahan Para sa Kaunlaran," the activity was made possible by the Province of Negros Occidental under the leadership of Governor Joseph Maranon which opened its arms as host province. Bacolod City under Mayor Evelio Leonardia also augmented resources.
Yangco added that the DSWD remains steadfast in its commitment to support the PYAP and this time, revive trainings for PYAP Officers.
"I congratulate you for conducting this event. Negros Occidental stands up in the implementation of programs and services for the Youth. This province is the PYAP capital of the Philippines," added Yangco.
Events yesterday include a morning mass, motorcade, ribbon-cutting for the photo exhibits, an opening program and a cheerdance competition. Participants showcased stunts and dance.
Winners in the cheerdance competition are La Carlota City, first; Sagay City, second and Bago City, third. Other participating Local Government Units are Bacolod City, Valladolid, La Castellana and Kabankalan.
Also present were Vice Governor Isidro Zayco, Board Member Mae Javellana, Board Member Nehemias Dela Cruz, Board Member Janet Torres, Mayor Eric Saratan of Talisay City, National Youth Commissioner Benjie Oliva, Bago City Councilor Bernadette Sumcio, Asst. Bureau Director of Programs Management Bureau Violeta Cruz, OIC Regional Director Teresita S. Rosales, DSWD Field Office VI focal person for youth Eduardo Guevarra.
