SPELL it out
Words are combinations of different characters in the alphabet. There are words with same spelling but they have different meaning, thus differ also in usage.
Though words from Adolf Hitler, Graciano Lopez-Jaena and Cardinal Jaime Sin were very influential before, they had reasons why they were given chances to speak before hundreds of people. And it was for a good cause if I may not stand corrected.
On the contrary, the tongue is the most powerful organ that can cause misunderstanding among us. Sometimes what comes from your mouth makes you unclean. Words can build up, however, words can also defile a person. Even a single word can give a life or worst, it can be like a twelve gauge shot gun and kill a person. Ouch! That is how powerful word is.
Let me tell you a story written by my younger brother entitled " Hear me."
A king lost his golden crown and out of anger he called all the people who belong in his kingdom. Powerful as he is, he made an announcement that whoever can point out the thief who stole his crown will have a reward. The greedy man bore false witness against an innocent kid. The mother was shocked and got ashamed to what she had heard. She grabbed her nine-year old child and hit him in the face. Blood came out from the nose of the child. " Mother, I did not steal the crown… please listen to me". But the mother kept on hurting the child in front of the king and the crowd until she lost her control and accidentally pushed the child on the floor. Weak and frail the helpless child died.
There was a minute of silence. With teary-eyed and bloody hands, the woman spoke, " It is I who stole your crown my king! Look at my child. Look at your child! Yes, he is your child my king!! You raped me right?" You destroyed my individuality!"
The king was embarrassed as if he pointed out his own self as a thief of life. He lost his crown and his child.
Indeed words can either make or break you. When you are tempted to say something that may sound criticizing, just zipper your mouth and hold your tongue. If you're not going to say good things, better save your saliva to a more sensible talk. Make use of your power to speak in a very nice way. Clear things up after all that's one of the powers of a word from your mouth.
As I reflect on the story, it always happens to us but only comes in a different setting. I may say, the words of the child are still clear in my heart… please listen to me….
Ponder with this question: If you are a word, what combination of characters are you, G. R. E. E. D. Y. or L. I. A. R. or H. O. N. E. S. T.? It is not the alphabet who describes your character. It is YOU!
