Aklan SU, Ibajay town: Partners in development
BANGA, Aklan -- An Agreement was forged between the Aklan State University (ASU) through its President, Dr. Benny A. Palma, and the Municipal Government of Ibajay, represented by its Municipal Mayor, Hon. Ma. Lourdes M. Miraflores, during the Administrative Council Meeting at ASU, Banga, Aklan on October 15, 2007.
Before the MOA signing, Hon. Miraflores emphasized in her message that the LGU-Ibajay is very grateful to the University for its continued support to the LGU. She assured everyone that the LGU-Ibajay will be he constant partner of the University in whatever development endeavors for the advancement of the students and for the constituents of the Municipality.
The MOA signing was attended by the heads of the different academic degree granting and service units of the University. Also present are Hon. Nelson D. Santamaria, Vice Mayor; Hon. Plaridel M. Solidum, Sangguniang Bayan Member; Ms. Jocelyn P. Gatanela, Administrative Officer IV; Mr. Larry U. Billones, Private Secretary to the Mayor; Ms. Mujane Begonia C. Miroy, Secretary to the Sanggunian; Mrs. Caridad Reyes, Municipal Agriculturist and Hon. Remberto S Sitjar, Jr. Barangay Captain of Barangay Maloco, Ibajay.
The first MOA that was signed is on the Graduate School Consortium between ASU and LGU-Ibajay. It involves the offering of the graduate program leading to the degrees Master of Arts in Education major in Educational Management and Master in Public Administration (Thesis and Non-Thesis).
The other Memorandum of Agreement is for the Project "Enhanced Parent Effectiveness Service," which is an extension program of the ASU-School of Rural Resource Development and Management-Teacher Education Department headed by Prof. Emily M. Arangote. The Project, currently implemented at Barangay Maloco, Ibajay, Aklan, aims to enhance Effective Parenting, Health and Nutrition Care, Home-based Waste Management and Cultural Appreciation through Literature.
In another Memorandum of Agreement, ASU and LGU-Ibajay agreed to jointly support the implementation of the Project "Livelihood and Entrepreneurial Skills Enhancement for Rural Productivity," in partnership with the Alliance of Volunteer Educators. It is intended for the enhancement of livelihood and entrepreneurial skills of farmers, rural women, fisherfolks, etc. in agriculture, fishery production, food processing and preservation, and other livelihood activities. Specifically, the project to be implemented in Barangay Maloco is on Food Processing and Packaging Business. The project recipients are the members of Maloco Barangay Day Care Centers Parents Association. (ASU-ECS)
