'Bright child' forum slated
A forum on "Bright Child" with the theme "Karapatan na sa iyo, Isigaw sa Buong Mundo!" will be held on October 26, as a culmination of the celebration of Children's Month.
The Regional Council for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC), which spearheads the activity has invited legislators, local officials in-charge of children's welfare in the local government units, and partner agencies that together can look into policy implementation of programs for children.
Social Welfare Dir. Teresita Rosales, who is also the RSCW Chair, said among the concerns which will be discussed for policy recommendations are on the children's rights for protection, to include those involving children in conflict with the law, and children in the worst forms of child labor.
A situationer on these concerns and the existing relevant national laws and agency programs will be presented by Ms. Estela Paredes of NEDA, while experiences on the implementation of Child friendly Movement in the LGUs will be given by Guimaras Governor Felipe Hilan Nava, as keynote speaker and Iloilo Board Member June Mondejar.
The Forum will primarily be geared towards the formulation of recommendations on how the concerns on the situationer can be addressed and what doable activities can be undertaken, particularly by the local officials.
Rosales said the RSCWC expects concrete recommendations from the forum participants so that, once and for all, an impact will be really felt on the lives of children in the communities. (PIA 6/ESS)
