Onward to Finland
Another opportunity for Filipinos has come when Finland has started to accept migrant workers there. With the opening of Filscandia Recruitment and Manpower Services, Inc. in Iloilo City, Ilonggo nurses are assured of employment in this country.
"This signals a beginning of fresh opportunities for Filipinos, especially Ilonggos who meet the global standards for professionals, to gain international employment," according to Hazel Buaron, chief executive officer.
Atty. Minna Valhala Harmanen of Finland said that Filscandia' opening is very remarkable for Fins. "We planned the process of recruiting Filipinos and even the education process there. We have started training nurses here how to speak Finnish and it will continue when they reach Finland, without any cost. The companies who will hire them are also willing to train them," she said.
Consul General Mikael Avellan said that there is a need for Filipinos in Finland. "The values of Filipinos that are lacking in Finnish culture are care and respect for the elderly people. I hope the Filipinos will keep these values despite the influence of Western culture. Finland is one of the fastest aging countries in the world. In fact, the prime minister is telling them to make babies, it's fun," he said and the guests laughed. "Finland can't make up for its labor needs, thus immigration of foreign workers has become an option. Filipino nurses are very professional. This will start a new era in the health care system, especially when they are not used to foreigners in Finland. In Finland, it's not just about the money. There, school, delivery of babies, doctors, among others, are free. The health care system is in place. Who will benefit from this? All of us," he added.
The opening was attended by government department heads, nurses, family and friends of Filscandia's management.
Filscandia is located at the 6th Floor of TCT Building, Iznart Street and can be reached through telephone number 3383760.
