DOST accepts Antique applicants for college scholarship
San Jose, Antique -- The Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute accepts applicants for College Scholarship leading to Bachelor of Science degree programs for students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and willing to pursue fields of science and technology.
Engr. Eleazar Moscoso of DOST said that quite a big number of students in the province have been beneficiaries and in fact for school year 2007-2008 there are 14 students who have availed of the scholarship program.
The scholarship is open to poor, talented and deserving 4th year high school student and member of the top five percent of the regular high school graduating class. He/She must be a natural born Filipino citizen, resident of the town for the last four years as attested by the barangay records, of good moral character and in good health and a qualifier of the 2008 science and technology scholarship examination.
Among the scholarship privileges are tuition and other school fees not to exceed P6,000 per semester, allowance for prescribed textbooks and essential school supplies at P3,000 per year and outright grant for prescribed Military Science/Physical Education uniform of P500 for first semester for first year only. For those studying outside of the home province, free transportation for the economy-class round trip fare between permanent residence and place of study on reimbursement basis.
The scholars will also be given group health and accident insurance, post graduation clothing allowance and additional privileges during summer if required in the curriculum.
Application form can be obtained from DOST Provincial Office at EBJ Sports Center, Binirayan Complex, San Jose Antique or can be downloaded at the website: www.science-scholarships.ph. Accomplished form can be submitted to the above-mentioned office on or before November 16, 2007. Examination will be on January 13, 2008.
It is a must according to Moscoso that the scholar should pass the qualifying examination for admission by the university where she/he plans to enroll and shall maintain the grade requirement of the scholarship. (DOST/PIA)
