PIA to hold 34th COPRE and awards
The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) will hold its 34th College Press Conference (COPRE) and Awards 2007 on November 29, 2007 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.
PIA Director Atty. Janet Mesa said the event is expected to gather more or less 200 student writers all over Western Visayas, for a writing competition and to vie for various awards for their respective publications.
The yearly conduct of the COPRE is a means to evaluate the application of journalistic principles and skills learned by the participants from the series of basic journalism seminar- workshops facilitated by the PIA.
COPRE also recognizes and awards outstanding mainstream and departmental publications of colleges and universities in the region, as well as individual writers.
The publications contests will be for Best Newspaper, best Magazine, Best Departmental Publication and a publication that earns any of these top three awards for three succeeding years, will get the Gawad Graciano Lopez Jaena Award.
Individual Awards for On-the-Spot writing contests include Best news writers, editorial writers, feature writers, column writers, sports writers, headline and copy editors, editorial cartoonists and photojournalists.
Dir. Mesa said the awards for student writers and publications are just tokens of performance but PIA remains firm in its aim of developing responsible campus writers. (PIA 6/ESS)
