No suspects yet on death of vice mayor's daughter
Was it a case of mistaken identity, a planned hit, an accidental firing, a 'political' killing or was there foul play in the death of a Sanggunian Kabataan (SK) chair in Lambunao, Iloilo?
A day into Tuesday evening's tragic incident, town police here have yet to release an official report nor any announcements made on the possible suspects and corresponding motives.
Shot dead in what was reported to be a close-range shooting, authorities were immediately alerted of the incident that took the life of Bona Marie Cathedral, SK chair of Barangay Jayubo.
The victim was a Management student of the University of the Philippines in the Visayas – Iloilo and daughter of Lambunao Vice Mayor Pancho Cathedral.
Radio reports disclosed that the victim was found in one of the bedrooms occupied by her father. Some six other family members were present including the vice mayor however the victim was alone in the room when the single gunshot was heard about 6:30pm Tuesday.
The victim was rushed to the town hospital however she was pronounced Dead On Arrival (DOA) by attending physicians.
The News Today (TNT) gathered that the single gunshot wound sustained by the victim was on the chest with powder burns visible to the probers.
Further investigation is underway led by the town's police chief, Senior Inspector Elmer Armada.
