65 retiring brgy captains running as kagawads
It appears that a lot of barangay captains in the city are not ready to leave the public service although they have already completed the maximum three-term period.
Records from the City Commission on Elections (Comelec) show that 65 of the 84 retiring barangay captains in the city are running for barangay kagawad.
The Comelec, however, is still on the process of completing the list of the 65 barangay captains who still want to be part of the barangay council.
Meanwhile, fourteen candidates for barangay captain in the city are unopposed.
Five of them are in the City Proper, three in Lapaz, three in Molo and another three in Jaro district.
Sure winners in the race for barangay captain in the City Proper are Irene Ong (President Roxas); Alejandro Dioquino (Magsaysay); Cornelio Lavente (Yulo-Arroyo); Melchor Conte (Roxas Village) and Bobby Divinagracia (San Agustin).
In Lapaz, Barangay Captains Leonor Guarin of Aguinaldo; Elias Refugio of Laguda and Jose Ma. Grecia of Lopez Jaena Sur are also unopposed.
While, Barangay Captain Eliezer Villanueva of South San Jose; Emilio Cua-Locsin of North Baluarte and Cirilo Lapascua of San Pedro will remain in their post as nobody from their respective barangays challenged them.
