Treñas calls on Brgy, SK bets not to resort to violence
City Mayor Jerry Treñas recently appealed to all the candidates in the forthcoming synchronized Barangay and SK elections to stay calm and not resort to violence as they woo the people's votes.
Treñas made the appeal before his scheduled trip to Korea today for an environmental conference. He will be out of the country from October 26 to October 30, 2007.
Treñas said, he has ordered the Iloilo City Police Office to take extra attention to all barangays considered as election areas of concern.
The mayor also instructed the police to talk to candidates in "trouble areas" to thwart any untoward election-related violence. Treñas admitted that he was disturbed of the recent incident in Barangay Jereos, Lapaz and Desamparados, Jaro as election day is coming nearer.
It is good that they are not election-related incidents. "The election shall come to pass. Candidates should not resort to any violent means in order to win. The people should vote for a qualified candidate to advance development," Treñas stressed.
In the same interview, Treñas said he is not giving any financial support to any candidate. He said he has no money to help the candidates in their campaigns.
