Paraw Regatta foundation donates handheld radios to city gov't
The Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation (IPRF) led by its chair Manuel Villa Jr. yesterday donated 10 handheld radios to the city government to help in its peace and order campaign. The handheld radios amounted to P60,000.
The foundation turned-over the handheld radios to Mayor Jerry Treñas after the Monday flag-raising ceremony. The turn-over ceremony was also attended by IPRF incorporators Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog, Honorato Espinosa, Jose Piamonte, Nilo Sazon and treasurer Manuel Joseph Barredo.
Senior Inspector Federico Silvestre of the Arevalo Police Station was also present being one of the recipients of the handheld radios. Three of the 10 handheld radios will be given to the Arevalo Police Station.
The handing out of handheld radios is only one of the foundation's projects.
The foundation also have a scholarship program for the children of the participants in the Paraw Regatta competition. They will have an opportunity to earn a degree at the John B. Lacson Maritime University.
The IPRF is a non-stock, non-profit organization that is mandated to promote tourism and investment in the city by institutionalizing the Paraw Regatta Festival and undertake each year the Paraw Regatta celebration.
Meanwhile, Treñas expressed his gratitude to the foundation officers for the donation they made to city government. He said the partnerships with the private sector is important for the development of the city.
Treñas also urged all Ilonggos to fully support the Paraw Regatta, which will be held on February 17th,2008 for a greater and better Paraw Regatta competition. The Paraw Regatta was also named as one of the best festivals in the country.
