PRO6 honors cop for winning golds in Singapore
The Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 awarded Medalya ng Kasayanan to PO1 John Paul M. Guay of Leganes Municipal Police Station, Leganes, Iloilo for bringing home four gold medals in last September's Dragon Boat Race by Sava Sprints International 2007 in Lower Seletar Reservoir Park, Singapore.
Sava Sprints International is the first competitive dragon boat race to obtain International Dragon Boats Federation associate status in Asia in 2005 and first ever to use the IDBF licensed 20 crew boats in Asia.
PO1 Guay joined the police service in December 30, 2003 and was assigned at Leganes MPS as Blotter PNCO in October 2006. He was the only delegate from Western Visayas to join the Philippine Delegation composing the Philippine National Police and Agua Fortis Dragon Boat Teams.
The Philippine teams finished first in the six major events -- the 500 and 200 meters in men, women and mixed races. The Filipinos competed against teams coming from USA, Great Britain, Austrilia, Germany, Canada, Hongkong, host Singapore National Team and various Singapore local teams.
The Philippine National Police delegation was headed by Police Superintendent Dennis Agustin who is currently President of the PNP Dragon Boat Rowers Association, Inc. Members of the team included Police Chief Inspector Gonzalo Villamor, Jr (Team Manager), Police Inspector Judy Bauan (Team Captain), Senior Police Officer 1 Romeo Canete (Team Head Coach/Drummer), Police Officer 2 Macario Sumalileng (Asst. Head Coach/Steerman) and 30 police officers, of whom was PO1 Guay, rowing enthusiasts. They went home with four golds.
Meanwhile, the PRO 6 has also given recognition to the accomplishments of PO1 Guay in the recently concluded PNP Inter-Zonal Sportsfest, where he brought home a gold medal for 100 meter run and three bronze medals for 900 meter run, 5 kilometer marathon (PNCO category) and 200 meter free style (swimming). His awards had given weight in raising the Visayas Team to second runner up.
"Because they are assets to the organization," PRO 6 Director Wilfredo V Dulay Sr said as regards to the giving of awards to PNP personnel who excelled in other fields, like PO1 Guay. RPIO PRO6
