City to host heritage seminar
The city government will host the 2nd seminar on "Philippine Towns and Cities: Reflections of the Past, Lessons for the Future" on November 9 at the Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center here.
The seminar is brought to the city by the Manila Historical and Heritage Commission represented by Gemma Cruz-Araneta. The highlight of the seminar will be the Mayors' Forum on Heritage Conservation and Local Development where discussions will be conducted by local government executives from various towns and cities.
The seminar aims to promote heritage strategy for local urban development and inner-city rehabilitation. At the same time, they want to create an effective legislative agenda regarding the heritage strategy for local government.
The gathering will also feature case presentations and "best practices" on heritage conservation done by the various towns and cities. Local government officials, heritage advocates from the private sector, college students and professors will be attending the conference.
Aside from Mayor Jerry Treñas, Mayors Danilo Mindanao of San Juan, Batangas; Rosauro Masilang of Sariaya, Quezon; Jose Montelibano of Silay City, Negros Occidental; Oscar Tetangco, Jr. of Apalit, Pampanga; Canuto Senen Oreta of Malabon City and Celso Lobregat of Zamboanga City are expected to attend the seminar.
As preparations for this Friday's seminar, Treñas issued an executive order creating various working committees to ensure the success of the event. DOT Regional Director Edwin Trompeta (honorary) will head the various committees while City Tourism chief Benito Jimena for the program, Iloilo City Cultural Heritage Conservation Council for the exhibit; St. Therese MTC Colleges and University of San Agustin for academe liaison and cultural presentation, Iloilo City Visitors Bureau and the Iloilo Hotels Resorts and Restaurants Association, accommodation; and Iloilo Producers Association for trade fair.
