Capiz forms council to look after welfare of PWDs, elderly
Roxas City -- The provincial government of Capiz has recently organized the Provincial Council for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens.
This came after Senior Board Member Esteban Evan Contreras II passed an ordinance creating said council in order to monitor the proper implementation of several laws granting privileges to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Contreras said that the council is important to ensure the protection of the elderly and persons with disabilities and their integration to the mainstream society.
He pointed out that through said council, programs and services beneficial to the Capiceño senior citizens and PWDs will be planned out and implemented properly.
The Council is chaired by Capiz Governor Victor Tanco, Sr., with Contreras, who chairs the Sanggunian's committee on elderly/senior citizens and PWDs, as vice chairperson and action officer.
The other members include the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, President of the Provincial Federation of Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines-Capiz, Philhealth, Provincial Health Office, Department of Education, Philippine Information Agency, two non-government organizations and other local and national agencies.
During the organizational meeting, the council has created six committees to give focus to the various programs and services of the province, namely, information, education and advocacy committee; complaints and legal assistance committee; programs and services; membership; monitoring and evaluation; and finance committee.
Capiz, excluding Roxas City, has registered more than 10,000 senior citizens, records from the PFSCAP Capiz Chapter showed. (PIA)
