SSU siezes illegal weighing scales
The Special Service Unit (SSU) of the city government recently confiscated 10 weighing scales from vendors at the Jaro Big Market.
The confiscation was made after the SSU inspectors found several violations such as, absence of official seal, broken seal and shortage of 50 grams from the actual weight.
A report rendered by Raymundo Llauderes II to Zellah Gil, officer in charge of the SSU, identified the violators whose weighing scales have no official seal as Cecile Haba, Rosario Estrella, Ninfel Bunye and one alias Jenelyn, Edna, Evelyn and Emily.
The team also said Evelyn, whose family name was not reflected in the report, was also using a weighing scale which is 50 grams short of the actual weight. The same is true with vendor Ana Gantalao. While, vendors who have weighing scales with broken seals are Felixberto Acap and Noli Graciano. The operation was conducted by the joint team of the SSU and the police precinct 4 (Jaro) last week.
The vendors were made to pay the penalty and have their weighing scales sealed. The operations against erring vendors are implemented in the city's different markets relative to City Ordinance 399. This is also to protect the buyers from being shortchanged by the vendors.
