Guimaras village chosen as best emerging destination in Western Visayas
Barangay Guisi, a small village in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras was awarded as the best emerging destination in Western Visayas during the Tourism Excellence Awards at the Western Visayas Tourism Assembly held in Bacolod City last week.
Guisi, which is now being developed as an eco-tourism site, is equipped with amenities for visitors. Guests can engage in mountain trekking, rappelling, kayaking, snorkeling and other adventure sports in the area.
It also has a more than a century old lighthouse, which serves as the landmark of the place.
Meantime, in addition to Barangay Guisi, the province of Guimaras also won several awards, making it the most-awarded local government unit during the event.
The tourism councils of Barangay Dolores in Nueva Valencia; Barangay Hoskyn, Jordan; Barangay Sapal in San Lorenzo all in Guimaras were given special awards.
Guimaras' Angeles Gabinete was handed the Best Tourism Officer award for the provincial category.
The giving of excellence award was one of the activities during the Western Visayas Tourism Assembly that gave recognition to performing tourism stakeholders in the region. (PNA)
