Bacolod City gov't to proceed demolition of 34 houses
The city government of Bacolod will proceed with the demolition of the 34 houses on Saturday despite a plea for extension from the affected residents.
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has offered three possible relocation sites in Kemara, Sea Wall or at the Abada Escay, all within the city.
The structures are located at Purok Mahimulaton, Nami-Nami and Riverside, all in Barangay Banago.
They have caused the flooding in two subdivisions in Mandalagan and Bata because the houses are within the three-meter easement of the river.
Allan Zamora, the city's legal officer, said that the houses have been declared as nuisance and can be demolished without a court order.
Zamora said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)has already sent the residents three notices to vacate but they were ignored. (PNA)
