City offers P20T cash reward for tipsters on wire thieves
Oathtaking
City Mayor Jerry Treñas announced before the newly-elected barangay officials the P20,000 cash reward for the arrest of electrical wire thieves. The offering of cash reward is only one of the three concerns made by the chief executive in yesterday's mass oath taking of barangay officials in Jaro covered gym.
Treñas said the city is very concerned about the rising cases of stealing of electrical wires in various parts of the city.
The reward will be given to any individual, from barangay captain, kagawads and tanods, who can offer information and evidence for the filing of appropriate cases against the suspect.
The reward, however, will not be accorded to tipsters who could not support their claim with evidence. The information should lead to the arrest of the suspect and eventual filing of cases before the courts. This is to prevent false information, said Treñas.
Treñas said there are already number of cases of stolen electrical wires in the city. He took note that in one case, the electrical wires were loaded in a pump boat. The cutting of electrical wires from the main post of the Panay Electric Company Inc. (Peco) caused black out in some portions of the city.
The city police has also coordinated with the junk shop owners for any group or persons who have been selling copper wires. The electrical wires are usually burned to removet its outer cover before selling it to junk shops.
Aside from cases of stealing electrical wires, the chief executive is also calling for the participation of barangay officials in the solid waste management program and clean and green program. The success of both programs lies in the participation and cooperation of barangay leaders.
Treñas said they will conduct seminars on solid waste management based on the module of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in order to address the solid waste management program of the city.
The chief executive likewise called for the participation of barangay officials in the clean and green program of the city government. Recently, an evaluation was made in the city regarding the Clean and Green contest.
Meanwhile, Representative Raul Gonzalez Jr. has called for unity among the barangay officials, councilors and mayor. He said there should be a close working relationship among all the officials in order to push for a more progressive city. The presence of barangay officials indicates a productive city, he said.
