No panic, no tension amidst 'revolt' in Manila
Both military and the police in Iloilo and throughout Western Visayas may have been in full red alert status yet hours after another revolt made the news late yesterday morning, it was business as usual for the Ilonggos.
With "flash reports" and "breaking news" on national television and special programming done by local news radio stations, Ilonggo businessmen lining up Calle Real appeared oblivious.
Vendors in sidewalks tuned in to the coverage as local police and government officials were heard and asked for statements.
Over-all sentiments aired was that Iloilo police and military are still with the government even as calls for support were made by the coup plotters.
In one hotel, guests momentarily stopped and watched the television as the news channel showed the latest in Manila. Yet minutes after the broadcast, people ‘dispersed’ as if nothing new was reported.
By mid-afternoon with the news in full-swing, still business as usual in major malls with no panic nor tension felt even at the height of the supposed uprising and nationwide call for support.
