Sinadya sa Halaran marks 10th year as Capiz's major festival
Roxas City -- This year's Sinadya sa Halaran (SSH) celebration marks its 10th year of bringing about joy in sharing and thanksgiving.
The celebration of SSH festival with the theme "Sulong kita sa Progreso, kay Labi sa Tanan ang Tawo ang Makabenepisyo," is continuously bursting with various activities spearheaded by the provincial and city as well as municipal government officials, congressmen, parish and church organizations, concerned government agencies, and civic and non-government organizations.
The activity highlights include tribe competition, trade fair and product exposition, food festival, various sports competitions, grand parade of festivals, blessing and inauguration of different government projects, and religious activities, among others.
The four-day sundown food festival will be enlivened by band concerts, fireworks display, daigon sa plaza, and cultural presentations. It will be further fascinated by the lightings at the city plaza, city hall, provincial capitol and floaters along the Panay river.
The celebration is a fusion of two major festivals of Capiz – Sinadya and Halaran – which were celebrated separately before 1998, although they were also fused once in 1992.
Sinadya marks the fiesta of Roxas City in honor of the Patroness of the Capiceños, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. Meanwhile, Halaran Festival depicts the rich cultural heritage of the Capiceños through sharing and thanksgiving.
The festivals were merged in a show of unity by Capiceños in 1998 in time for the Philippine Centennial year. (PIA)
