Solon to initiate congressional probe vs. Peco, PPC
Gonzalez Jr.
Representative Raul Gonzalez Jr. will reportedly initiate a congressional inquiry on the operation of the Panay Electric Company Inc. (Peco) and Panay Power Corporation (PPC) after the city was hit by a citywide blackout on Christmas Day.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas welcomed the move of the solon saying the matter is of "public interest."
Treñas added that he is still waiting for the final report of Peco and PPC regarding the recent blackouts. Peco and PPC is expected to submit their report to the mayor Thursday afternoon. Copies of the report will be provided to the Sangguniang Panlungsod for whatever action the legislative council will initiate.
It will be up for the members of the city council and the entire Ilonggo consumers to accept the explanations, said Treñas.
Treñas said Peco and PPC must have exercised their own measures and come up with their plan to address the power needs of the city even if there is a power outage from the National Transmission Corporation (Transco).
Initially, the mayor was told that the citywide blackout was caused by a transmission line link up problem. Three of the "clamps" owned by Transco which is located at Barangay Mansaya, Lapaz were allegedly stolen.
In a related development, Treñas has ordered Iloilo City Police Office Director Sr. Supt. Wesley Barayuga and Lapaz police station chief Sr. Inspector Uldarico Garbanzos to secure all the cable wires and other interconnections between Transco and Peco.
