Roxas City -- The government's housing program for policemen is aimed to provide all police personnel and their families a decent and dignified living quarters.
This was the reaction of Capiz Police Director Senior Supt. Roberto Villanueva on the recent inauguration of housing units for the members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig graced by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
"Our police needs the comfort of own shelter for their family and love ones," said Villanueva.
The medium-rise housing project at Camp Bagong Diwa will also be constructed in Camp Panopio, Quezon City; San Miguel, Bulacan, Camp Castañeda in Silang, Cavite; and Baras, Rizal.
"It is but fitting that our men and women in uniform are among the first to benefit from these housing units as 67,000 of our policemen do not own their own homes. Some of them in fact live in squatter areas," said Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesperson Ignacion Bunye.
The efforts and devotion to duty of the hardworking PNP members were recently recognized with the inauguration of housing units in Taguig, Bunye added.
During the inauguration, President Arroyo has advised the PNP's housing group headed by Deputy Chief for Administration Jesus Versoza to immediately submit to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) the funding requirement of the project which could be taken from the budget surplus for the period January – November 2007.
