Antique airport upgrading project now 60% completed
San Jose, Antique -- The upgrading of the Evelio B. Javier Airport in Antique province has now reached 60 percent completion, according to Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Assistant Sec. Dante Lantin during his recent visit here.
Lantin said that the on-going upgrading of the airport that started November 2007 costs around P24 million. The scope of the upgrading work includes the construction of the drainage system, which has long been requested by the local government unit of San Jose de Buenavista where the airport is located, and the rehabilitation of the perimeter fence.
The DOTC official further said that works at the EBJ airport will be finished on April 2008 with the present rate of upgrading work being done.
The DOTC assistant secretary also said that there is a plan to extend the 1.1 kilometer airport runway to 1.4 or 1.5-kilometer to accommodate bigger planes.
The airport previously only catered to smaller planes like the Asian Spirit which has stopped operation now. (PNA)
