Tribu Saad of the Municipality of Leganes performs for the
Kasadyahan contest last Saturday.
The Iloilo Chinese-Filipino Cultural Association encouraged Chinese restaurants here to serve and prepare authentic Chinese cuisines during the Chinese New Year food festival to tickle the Ilonggos' palate on Chinese foods. Cash prizes await the winners of best served Chinese food and best kiosk.
The food festival to be headed by the Iloilo Hotels Restaurants and Resorts Association (IHRRA) aims to showcase cuisines from known Chinese restaurants in the city that will satisfy the taste of the Ilonggos, said Dr. Roland Uy, chair of the Iloilo Chinese-Filipino Cultural Association.
Uy said a kiosk that serves authentic Chinese cuisine would receive a P10,000 cash prize and a kiosk that depicts Chinese culture would likewise receive P10,000. Kiosk occupants are encouraged to adorn their place with Chinese trinkets to exude more Chinese ambiance.
The food festival would be held in Iloilo's China town or the Calle Real during the Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year is a time for families to feast, have fun and family reunion. In 2008, Chinese New Year falls on February 7th. In the Chinese lunar calendar, 2008 is the year of the Earth Rat.
The organizers preferably want the kiosk occupants to share with Ilonggos not just the taste of "tikoy" and "matsang" but also other Chinese delicacies. Tikoy is made of glutinous rice, sugar and water. In comes now in different flavors like ube and pandan.
In the food festival, Ilonggo foods especially grilled and broiled chicken, squid, pork among others would also be served.
