USA-Iloilo medical mission is back
Twenty one million pesos worth of medicines and medical equipment were brought in yesterday by the American medical volunteers for their upcoming medical mission at Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan.
The volunteers led by Mr. Melvin Barrido and his wife Jane also came last year for a medical mission.
The couple are permanently based in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
The medical team is composed of American and Filipino American surgeons, nurses and therapists, identified as Kenneth Westfield, Carl Williams, Jr., Craig Iwamoto, Lee Reese, Adam Romeiser, Gary Chambers, David Adams, Winnie Siaotong, Linda Gambito, Joel Orevillo,, Glenda P. Grino, Leslie Martin, Sandy Harvey, Belen "Bambi" Quijano, Joe Ybarra, Esther Barcenilla, Melissa Wandag, Helen Gonzales, Helen Solis Lao, Alma Villoso, Sam Villoso, Alison Garcia, Cora Medina, Tessie Magtalas, Mike Reese, Rick Savage, Noemi Cordero Garcia, Annabelle Anselmo, John Barrido and Gilda Guiang.
Medical equipment and boxes of combined medical/surgical supplies such as anesthesia/ultra machines and cardiac monitor to be used in the mission were transported to Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan, Friday, January 25, 2008.
Pre-operation screenings of potential indigent patients were held Saturday afternoon while first day of the mission starts Monday morning until January 30, 2008.
The medical team will conduct post mission evaluation and pre-planning conference in preparation for their next Medical Mission in 2009.
This medical mission rendered by the USA Medical Mission Group is a continuous activity by the couple Melvin Barrido and his wife Jane to help their impoverished fellow Ilonggos in Iloilo province.
Gov. Niel Tupas was elated by the couple's concern and the later vowed to help the group by shouldering the tariffs for the medical equipment and surgical supplies and medicines. (Capitol News/Nelson C. Robles)
