2007 tourist arrivals in Boracay up by 7.67 %
Tourist arrivals in Boracay Island in 2007 increased by 7.67 percent compared in 2006. The tourist arrivals posted at 596,707 domestic and foreign tourists. The more than half-million tourist arrivals generated a total of P10,969,503,463.80 in tourism receipts.
Of the 596,707 tourist arrivals, 359,433 were domestic tourists, 208,870 were foreign tourists and 28,404 were overseas Filipinos.
The year 2006 only registered 554,181 tourist arrivals and it generated P10,187,730,995.40 in tourism receipts.
Boracay posted the highest increase of tourist arrivals in 2005 with 16.49 percent.
For the foreign tourists, Korea posted a very high record with 128,909 in 2007. In 2006, there were 124,618 tourist arrivals and 100,922 in 2005. Every year, there is an increase in the tourist arrivals among the Koreans.
The Koreans top the list of tourists coming from East Asia, which includes China, Hong Kong, Japan and Taiwan, who visited Boracay last year.
There were 12,720 tourist arrivals from China, 4,935 from Hong Kong, 5,294 from Japan and 3,621 from Taiwan.
Tourists from Europe also made a record in the 2007 arrivals in Boracay with 24,349. The 24,349 tourists were from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom. United Kingdom has the most number of tourist arrivals with 5,996.
There were 16,520 foreign tourists from Canada and United States of America that visited Boracay in 2007. Tourist arrivals from north America is even bigger compared with Asean countries like Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The tourist arrivals from Asean countries in 2007 was only 2,757.
In 2007, there were also 3,807 tourists from Austria and New Zealand, 1,000 from Saudi Arabia and 500 from India that enjoyed the world's renowned white beach island. There were also 4,458 tourists recorded whose places of origin were not indicated.
