Ilonggo one of the dead in GenSan bombing
An Ilonggo was among the four confirmed fatalities in Wednesday's deadly bombing in General Santos City in what stands as the worst bombing incident here.
The victim who died on the spot with three others hailed from Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo belonging to the Velez clan. The blast occurred outside the main gate of PhilBest Canning Corporation in Barangay Tambler, some eight kilometers from the city proper. One of the fatalities was a girl selling bananas by the blast site.
In a report, The News Today (TNT) gathered that 30 others were injured including a Taiwanese national. Seven from the group are said to be in critical condition, mostly workers off to the night shift.
PhilBest Canning Corporation is one of the biggest employers of General Santos City with Ilonggo workers forming part of its major workforce.
News wires disclosed that a deadline was set by Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr. for the city cops to ascertain type of explosives used. Various motives are being validated while early suspicions of a terroristic attack was downplayed by local authorities.
It was not immediately clear if the remains of the Ilonggo victim will be brought here to Iloilo alongside confirmation of at least three more victims believed to be Ilonggos.
