Iloilo gov says change in House leadership long overdue
Iloilo Governor Niel D. Tupas, Sr. said the change in the speakership in the House of Congress is long overdue.
He further said that Rep. Jose De Venecia has for long been occupying the seat of the House Speaker that it's about time he paves way for others.
He also said that it is important for the Speaker to be able to work in close coordination with Malacañang, which De Venecia may not be able to do so with his recent falling out with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The governor revealed that his son, Rep. Niel C. Tupas, Jr., voted Monday night for Rep. Prospero Nograles who is now the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, Iloilo League of Municipalities in the Philippines president Raul C. Tupas said that although he considers the change in House leadership as an internal affair, he could not help but express his support to Nograles.
He said that what happened in the lower house is a manifestation that democracy is alive. "It's anybody's ball game," the mayor of Barotac Viejo of Iloilo province contended.
He recalled that he was privileged to be with the delegation of Nograles in attending the United Nations General Assembly last year in Geneva, Switzerland. (PNA)
