PRO6's Women and Children Protection Center wins PNP Best of the Best Award
Police Regional Office (PRO) 6's Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC) was adjudged nationwide as the Philippine National Police (PNP)'s Best of the Best WCPC in 2007. Police Chief Inspector Cecilia R Detablan received the award Wednesday at Camp Crame, Quezon City on the occasion of the 17th PNP Day celebration.
The PRO 6's Regional WCPC is formerly known as Women and Children Concern Section, which was activated in July 2002 under the Investigation Branch of the Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division. The latter is now the Regional Investigation and Detection Management Division.
The Center caters to issues and concerns involving women and children, like abuse, exploitation and trafficking. Its functions also include the psychological and emotional care and treatment of the victims.
The highlights of the accomplishments of PRO 6's WCPC are the conduct of 18 trainings and seminars on women and children protection-related subjects participated in by 652 PNP personnel, barangay officials, members of Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and other sectors; the handling of five criminal cases; and the investigation and resolution of 24 administrative complaints, in coordination with other stakeholders, like the Local Government Units (LGUs), NGOs, Task Force ADAMS APPLE, Visayan Forum, Bantay Bata 163, etc.
The national Chief of WCPC, Police Chief Superintendent Yolanda G Tanigue, said the PRO6's WCPC is the only working Women and Children Protection Center because they conduct investigation, file cases, participate in raids and inspection, and conduct seminars.
The PRO 6's WCPC personnel has received awards and recognitions from various LGUs and NGOs for their campaigns for the protection and upholding of women and children's rights in Western Visayas.
"No amount of words can express but credits go to all NGOs that have supported our activities, especially the Visayas Forum, Task Force Adams Apple, City Social Welfare, Bantay Bata Foundation and Governor Tupas for the equipment and facilities donated," Detablan said.
