On coal-fired power plant
(The following are some of the text messages we received regarding the raging issue on whether to allow the entry of coal-fired power plant in Iloilo City.)
* Right now there is no credible investor for green alternatives, as such we need the coal plants which have real and willing investors. Else Panay island will not have additional power supply to continue feeding progress.
* Yes it is very safe and emission levels are well within the national emission standards. Cebu and Manila have these sort of plants and the environmentalists can't take them to court cause they meet the standards.
* The US is the biggest contributor to global warming, Philippines hardly affects warming. So why take away the capability of the Philippines to develop? It should be the developed world that should.
* Due to global warming, the Philippines, being an archipelago will be hardest hit when the ocean level rises! Boracay, our $ earner will be first to go! What will be left to develop then?
* 52% of US power supply is supplied by coal. Global warming cannot be just blamed to coal. How about the rest of the fossil fuels? Biomass which gives us methane is much more dangerous. Right now for the island of Panay there is no renewable energy.
* Be careful whom you are getting advice from. Some of the so called environmentalists are using the green platform to stop all progress and destabilize the status quo-commies who want to takeover the government.
* It is easy for the US to talk hypocritically against coal plants, but more than 50% of US power plant capacity is coal. Sot to take away attention from them, they want us third world countries to be the ones to sacrifice for their benefit.
