Search for best performing Botika ng Barangay on
The Department of Health (DOH) has launched a nationwide search for the Best Performing Botika ng Barangay (BnB) outlet as part of its effort to firm up and create awareness on the significance of Generics Law and provide incentives to these BnBs.
The search is open to existing BnBs, Health Plus outlets of the National Pharmaceutical Foundation (NPF) and Department of Health – Center for Health Development (CHD) initiated BnB outlets.
Here in Western Visayas, the DOH-Center for Health and Development 6 (CHD 6) has organized a regional evaluation team to undertake the evaluation based on the criteria set by the DOH Central Office.
Criteria for evaluation included technical requirements, human resource, community participation, top gross sales and health promotion.
According to DOH-CHD 6 a total of 34 entries will be evaluated in Western Visayas. Out of the 34 entries, 15 will come from Antique, 9 from Negros Occidental, 8 from Iloilo and 2 from Aklan.
The highest ranking BnB from each Center for Health Development or Regional Offices shall be declared the Best Performing BnBs.
Winners to this contest will receive a plaque of recognition with additional package of drugs and medicines worth P25,000.
Based on the record of DOH-CHD 6 there are 1,098 established BnBs in the region or about 10 percent of the 10,336 BnBs spread all over the country as of this date.
DOH-CHD 6 said all DOH initiated BnBs in the region were provided with initial medicines worth P25,000 to start the operation in support of Republic Act 6675 or the Generics Act of 1988.
BnB is a drug outlet where low priced Generic over-the counter (OTC) drugs and other selected prescription drugs are sold at affordable prices as part of the President's thrust to make quality and affordable medicine accessible to the poor and far-flung areas. (PIA)
