Iloilo militants press for Arroyo's ouster
Militants here held a protest rally yesterday to press for the ouster of President Arroyo following the national broadband network (NBN) controversy, which involved her husband, First Gentleman Miguel Arroyo.
"This is part of the nationwide protest actions, but we call it the shout for truth and genuine reforms on the 22nd anniversary of the Edsa revolution," Bayan-Panay chair Aurelio Bosque told The News Today.
About 200 persons joined in the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-led picket at the Provincial Capitol yesterday afternoon, coinciding with the massive protests in the nation's capital.
They also marched in the major streets of the City Proper before holding the picket.
Joining them were priests and seminarians from Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI) dressed in their white sotanas.
Bosque said that various groups from different sectors are scheduled to hold a 'consensual meeting for truth and justice' today at the Pius XII in Jaro district.
We will be coordinating the efforts of the various groups relating to the NBN-ZTE controversy.
"This meeting is in response to the call of the church for a communal action," Bosque said, referring to the call of Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines.
They are also working out a possible inter-faith prayer rally on Friday. Hopefully, the Archdiocese of Jaro under Arch. Angel Lagdameo would join us, Bosque said.
Lagdameo is the president of the CBCP.
