Panay's Shining Moment
Nono Palmos
Iloilo's stakeholder in the tourism industry, the Ilonggo Producers Association which operates the IPA Trade Pavillion located at the Llacer Building in General Luna St, Iloilo City will present the first ever Couture Collection of internationally renowned Ilonggo designer Nono Palmos. IPA showcases and markets quality tourism products, delicacies and fabrics of Panay and Guimaras, while Palmos' collection will feature the heritage fabrics of the island of Panay.
Aptly titled " HINABOL", this cocktail- fashion show presentation Iloilo's rich and glorious past will bring us to the time in the mid 18th century when Iloilo was referred to by historians as the "textile center of the Philippines". This attributed to the influx of women weavers who drove 18th century commerce in the region to a new grind.
With its world famous Miagao church, its equally famous and talented son has brought honor and pride to the Philippine weaving industry and fabrics…from Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, United Kingdom in Europe where he makets his Per Te line, Malaysia, Korea, China and Thailand to name a few, Nono Palmos almost always becomes part of the Philippine tourism team in the promotion of Philippine fabrics abroad.
Nono Palmo's Creation
Nono Palmo's creations of almost architectural precision of intricate beadworks, hand painted stunning components and surprising color mixes achieved the singular feat and gain the admiration of international dignitaries and Asian royalty who recognizes his talent and concern for the weaving industry of the Philippines.
This upcoming fashion exposition on February 29 will be held at the elegant Crown Ballroom of Punta Villa Resort at 6 pm in La Villa de Arevalo, Iloilo City. This IPA's project is their contribution to Iloilo as it gears up for a comeback and a befitting tribute to the women weavers of Panay then and now in a collection rich in cultural references, the vibrant colors of Panay and Guimaras and the inherent elegance of the Ilonggos. It is the artist's paean to an industry that has enriched his life beyond measures.
Proceeds of this fund raising show will go to the product development, training and marketing programs of the Ilonggo Producers Association whose objective is to promote and consistently develop a high quality image of Panay and Guimaras products here and abroad.
