Region 6 Observes Dental Consciousness
The Department of Health Region 6 in coordination with the Iloilo Dental Society spearheaded the observance of the National Dental Health Month with various activities held in February 2008.
Director Lydia S. Ramos of the Department of Health Center for Health Development No. 6 (DOH-CHD 6) said that in line with the celebration, orally fit child campaign is being promoted and it includes the development of positive behavior such as promoting tooth brushing, and healthy diet.
The government's comprehensive dental program aims to improve the quality of life of people through the attainment of the highest possible oral health. Its objective is to prevent and control dental caries and periodontal diseases.
Targeted priorities are vulnerable groups such as 5-12 year-old children, and pregnant women. Strategies of the program include social mobilization through advocacy meetings, partnership with GOs and NGOs.
Director Ramos urged the public to regularly visit their dentist in order to prevent tooth decay, gum disease and other disorders.
