Reports linking councilors to 'drug lord' must be verified
For Mayor Jerry Treñas the reports linking three members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod as coddlers of a certain drug lord in the city must be verified. It is unfair for them to be tagged as such without sufficient evidence, he said.
The report on the alleged link of three unnamed members of the legislative body to a suspected drug lord was mentioned by Department of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr. in a radio interview.
Based on the information received by the secretary the three allegedly frequents the restaurant owned by a suspected drug lord. The councilors were allegedly seen several times at a VIP room of the restaurant.
Though Treñas is fully supportive of the campaign against illegal drugs, he expressed that the alleged involvement of the three councilors must be validated and supported with proof.
The mayor could not categorically say if the implication of the three councilors as coddlers of an alleged drug lord is already part of a political demolition job against them.
He said the councilors and the secretary belong to the same political party.
