Sen. Legarda to lead Antique VAWC Center groundbreaking ceremony
Sen. Loren Legarda and Antique Gov. Salvacion Zaldivar-Perez will lead the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) center in the capital town of San Jose on Friday (March 7).
Legarda, who traces her roots in Antique province, gave P3 million for the setting up of VAWC center. This center will provide temporary shelter for about 15-20 abused women and children.
Antique Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (PSWDO) Lazaro Petinglay said that in 2007, some 35 women and children who sought temporary refuge in the Department of Social Welfare and Development extension building in San Jose.
When opened, VAWC center will house the abused women and children where they will be provided with proper protective custody and rehabilitation pending the filing appropriate cases against their abusers.
The VAWC center will have an office space and two bedrooms for the clients. It is located in a 640-square meter lot donated by the Antique National High School to the provincial government. (PNA)
