WV gov't nurses to upgrade skills in maternal and child health
Some 150 government nurses in Western Visayas are scheduled to attend a Regional Forum on Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Framework on March 14, 2008 at the activity center of the Department of Health, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Ms. Charity Y. Perea, regional governor of the National League of Philippine Government Nurses, Inc. (NLGPN) said that the Philippines has set maternal and child health as one of the its priority concern in achieving the Millennium Development Goals in 2015, and this could be best sustained through capacity and capacity-building among those who look after the health of women and children.
Perea said that invited resource speaker is the incumbent National President of the NLPGN, Inc., and Supervising Program Health Officer of DOH-NCDPC, Ms. Vicenta E. Borja.
The 2006 Field Health Service Information System (FHSIS) Report disclosed that in Western Visayas, the recorded maternal deaths was114 and 1,437 for infant deaths.
"Nurses are vital resource for attaining health and development," Perea said as she enjoined government nurses to continue working together and combine their efforts in championing the right to health of all mothers and children, to attain the vision of a mother and child friendly Philippines.
Perea said that as public health care providers, nurses should continue to upgrade their knowledge and skills and remain faithful to the promise of improving the lives of our women and children.
She further said that the gathering is their first general assembly for 2008 and the newly elected NLPGN Region VI Board of Directors will likewise be inducted during the occasion. (PIA/T.Villavert)
