Info strategies up BIR's collection target
San Jose, Antique -- Continued advocacy has contributed greatly to BIR's increase in collection goal by about 3.20% disclosed Revenue District Officer Ursula Equiña.
For the month of February 2008, the Bureau of Internal Revenue collected P15,895,229.55 against collection goal of P15,402,022.04 or an increase of P493,207.51
Most of the collection came from Expanded Value Added Tax (EVAT) which amounted to P2,836,855.79 representing 51.46% higher as against last year's EVAT collection.
BIR RDO No. 73 continued to maintain its efficiency in tax collection over other Revenue Districts in Region 6.
In fact, in November and December last year the local office was an awardee for Exemplary Performance.
With the April 15 deadline of filing of income tax return, BIR has intensified its information drive down to the grassroots.
Newly elected Barangay Captains and newly appointed Barangay Treasurers, were oriented on the proper procedures to be followed in the collection of withholding taxes on projects implemented in the Barangays, including purchases of construction materials and supplies, Equiña said.
The local government units including the barangays have corresponding shares in taxes collected by the BIR which the government allocates through the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) for the implementation of development Programs and projects ranging from infrastructures, school buildings, farm to market roads, irrigation, potable water supply and social services among others which boils down to BIR's battle cry "Buwis na Binabayaran, Marami ang Nakikinabang"
