City to honor 20 outstanding women
As part of the culminating activity for the Women's Month celebration, the city government will award 20 women achievers in their chosen fields on Monday at the Fountain Area of Robinsons Place Iloilo.
City councilor Julienne Baronda, chair of the city council Committee on Women and Family Relations of the Sangguniang Panlungsod said this year's awardees of "The Outstanding Women of Iloilo City (TOWIL) 2008" is in recognition of women who have manifested exemplary performance in their particular field of profession that contributed to the development of Iloilo City.
This year's theme is "Financing for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women". The search is a project of the city council, Baronda's committee and the Haligi Foundation Inc. of Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog. The ceremony will start at 5 p.m.
The awardees and their fields of profession are: Division Superintendent Erlinda G. Gencaya for Education; P/C Insp. Erna C. Foerster of Women and Children's Desk for PNP Service; Dr. Lucita D. Jalbuena, internal medicine cardiologist for Medical Practice; Multi-Sectoral Business Organization president Fanny L. Uy for Entrepreneurship; city population officer Mary H. Edurese for Government Service; Federated Persons with Disabilities president Dolores M. Laudenorio for Persons with Disabilities; Mafelou C. Leagogo-Agriam of Cream Magazine for Journalism.
Sr. Wilsonia S. Laxina, SPS of St. Paul's Hospital for Religious Sector; Lydia C. Pendon for Media and Public Information; Jeanette T. Oberio of PCSO for Social Services; Marissa C. Segovia of S&J Motors-Iloilo for Business Management; Visayas coordinator Sonia F. Cadornigara of Homeless People Federation of the Philippines are also in the list of women's with exemplary performance.
The other awardees are accountant Irma D. Lim for Professional Services; RTC Judge Loida J. Diestro-Maputol for Judiciary Service; former Brgy. Capt. Cecilia P. Nava for Family Community Service; Ruth T. Jarantilla for Philanthropic Work; Iloilo City Swimming Team coordinator Nimfa L. Tablan for Sports Development; Dr. Josette T. Biyo of Philippine Science High School for Science; Hermosa C. Villa of Soroptimist Club of Iloilo for Civic Organization; and Beverly P. Rosales for Arts and Culture.
