Bacolod City police office wins National Salaam Center Award
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) won the Philippine National Police Best Salaam Police Center Award recently, for its efforts to maintain peace and order by building good relationship and rapport with the community, including Muslims.
BCPO Director Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar said they did not expect the citation as they were just doing their job.
Haron Sacar, a Muslim resident at the Lopez-Jaena-San Sebastian Muslim Center Compound in Brgy. 31 in Bacolod City, said that the city police regularly extends communication efforts to them through meetings.
The compound which was established in October 1976, is the biggest among the four Muslim centers in Bacolod City with its Mosque and Madrasah, Sacar added.
Other Muslim areas in Bacolod are in barangays Alijis, Mansilingan and Taculing.
The Muslims in the city appreciate the efforts of the police in helping them in their concerns. They also understand that their members who may violate the law will have to deal with the legal implications.
The Saalam Police Center was organized to harmonize the relationship of the PNP with the Muslim Community in the country.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ordered the creation of the Saalam Police to support the government's anti-terrorism and anti-criminality campaign and to facilitate dialog with Muslim brothers and sisters. (PIA/cad)
