Some 11,003 companies invested P8 billion in Western Visayas last year.
Of these investors, 9,170 were new registrants and 1,833 renewals, according to business name registration (BNR) data provided by the regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The types of investments included service–oriented such as hotels, resorts and restaurants; food-related with seafood company, distillery and water refilling stations; and processing composed of rice and sugar mills.
In 2006, the DTI only registered 9,800 firms, with 8,268 new business names and 1,532 renewals.
