Western Visayas sets gab on dengue prevention and management
The National Center for Disease Prevention and Control with the support from the Asian Development Bank in coordination with the Department of Health-Center for Health Development-Western Visayas is conducting a series of training activities on Dengue Prevention and Management.
The activity will be held in Boracay Regency, Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan on April 8-10, 2008.
DOH 6 Regional Director Lydia S. Depra-Ramos disclosed in her invitation letter to the various government/private agencies, that the marked increased of 367% of dengue cases in Region VI last 2007 compared to 2006 showed a case fatality rate of more than 1% for age group 0-9 years.
The Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of DOH 6 record showed that the 2006 Dengue cases were recorded at 1,270 with 12 deaths, while 5,385 dengue cases and 60 deaths were recorded in 2007.
"The data showed that coordinated efforts on the prevention and control of dengue should be initiated," Director Ramos said.
The scheduled series of training activities are: Dengue Orientation for CHO/MHO/Dengue Coordinators- April 8 to 9; Dengue Clinical Case Management Training for Hospital-Based Physicians- April 9 to 10; and Dengue Orientation for Non-Health Workers- April 10.
The DOH 6 Director expects a 100% attendance from the invited government/private institutions for a strengthened campaign against dengue infections. (PIA)
