KFC crew survives burns due to LPG leak on mobile stall
A 20 year-old crew of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) mobile stall remains in hospital confinement following serious burns sustained in a freak accident yesterday.
The victim was identified by authorities as Jeffrey Gierza of Barangay Bayuco, Tigbauan, Iloilo. The incident occurred in the premises of the provincial-bound jeepney, buses and vans in Tagbac Terminal, Jaro District.
With about 50 passengers milling around the terminal, a sudden explosion was heard that temporarily caused panic among those present.
In a report over Bombo Radyo Iloilo, initial medical update on Gierza's condition disclosed burns on his face, legs and arms. Responding authorities confirmed that a leaking Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tank of said foodchain was source of the explosion.
Witnesses reached by investigators recalled seeing the victim setting up his KFC stocks and about to heat up the fryer.
Seconds after the accident, Gierza was aided by good samaritans in the terminal and rushed to the West Visayas State University Medical Center (WVSUMC) for emergency treatment. (Florence F. Hibionada)
