Treñas orders increased police visibility
City Mayor Jerry Treñas has directed the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) to increase police visibility and conduct checkpoints in strategic places to avert robberies and hold-up incidents in the city.
Treñas's reaction was in response to the series of robberies committed in the city and province of Iloilo recently.
Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director Sr. Supt. Ricardo de Lapaz earlier called on the city police to help monitor and if possible arrest the suspects as they reportedly hide in the city.
Treñas stressed the police should always be on alert in order not to be caught flatfooted when robbers strike in their areas of responsibility.
Treñas added that he is coordinating with ICPO chief Sr. Supt. Wesley Barayuga to come up with more improved action plans to deter the commission of crimes such as robbery and hold ups.
The chief executive added that the help of the barangay tanods in crime prevention must be tapped. He said they (barangay tanod) are more familiar with their area so they must know if there's something unusual happening in their barangay.
Meanwhile, Treñas also said he will ask Senior Inspector Uldarico Garbanzos, chief of police of Lapaz police station, to impose a curfew in Brgy. Don Esteban, Lapuz in the wake of reports that there are presence of fraternity members in the area carrying weapons.
