DOST bares list of SEI scholarship qualifiers in Aklan
Kalibo, Aklan -- Fifteen Aklanon students coming from various schools in and out of the province successfully passed the examination given recently by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Science and Education Institute (SEI) for Merit Scholarship.
The examination was given in two batches last January 13 at the DOST 6 Regional Office to applicants coming from the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, Capiz, Iloilo and Negros Occidental.
DOST-Aklan revealed that the province had 160 applicants.
Of Aklan's successful examinees, 8 came from the Regional Science High School for Region VI located in Kalibo, Aklan (Anna Menchie Bautista, Jeric Ryan R. De Josef, Salvie Marie A. Fuentes, Marie Louise O. Ingeniero; Angela C. Lim, Ma. Adeliza Mortalla, Allan Chester Nadate and Sasha Lyn L. Sejane); 3 from Philippine Science High School (Cynthia Grace C. Dela Cruz, Jessamine S. Payba and Kristine Joy Y. Sumanga; 1 from Infant Jesus School Kalibo (Ma. Charisse D. Pamatian); one from Bloomfield Academy (Cherelyn S. Sacapano); 1 from Melchor Memorial School-Ibajay, Aklan (Edryan D. Bongabong) and 1 from Western Aklan Academy-Nabas, Aklan (Fritzie Jane P. Salido).
As qualifiers, the DOST said they are set to attend on April 22 Scholarship Orientation and Signing of Scholarship Agreement.
As scholars, the qualifiers will be awarded scholarship in BS degree programs in the field of science and technology. They will enjoy tuition and other school fees not to exceed P6,000 per semester; receive an allowance for prescribed textbooks and essential school supplies at P3,000 per academic year; outright grant for prescribed Military Science/Physical Education uniform of P500.00 for first semester of the first year only; and free transportation for one economy –class round trip fare between permanent residence and place of study or reimbursement basis (for those studying outside of home province.
The scholars will also receive a monthly living allowance for a 10-11 month duration depending on the awardee's scholarship category as full, partial, or special scholar which shall be based on certain socio-economic indicators. (PIA)
